FLASHING LIGHTS is the neon brainchild of some of the city’s most beloved selectors: DJ AYRES (responsible for 7+ sweaty years of The Rub parties at Southpaw), NICK CATCHDUBS (remix/mixtape phenom and co-founder of the hit indie label Fool’s Gold) and JUBILEE (BK bass sweetheart behind her own Nightshifters imprint). Over the past year, these three constantly-touring DJs have worked tirelessly to launch a genuinely fun and unpretentious electronic dance party in their own hometown. HOUSE+DISCO+TECHNO+RAVE as the block-letter flyers plainly state: no hype, just tuuunes!
The Flashing Lights party is a true destination, thanks to exciting and unpredictable sets blending brand new music and revitalized dance classics. With guest sets from big name friends (A-Trak, Klever, Drop The Lime), local heroes (DJ Dara, Sabo) and breaking talent (La Roux, Toddla T, Nadastrom), each edition brings new musical delights.
By teaming up with event producer MeanRed and party promoter Good Peoples, this party has reached new levels and the DJs have had the opportunity to keep the crowd bumping in giant clubs, underground lounges and now monthly hijack the MeanRed, epically transformed 88 Palace dim sum restaurant turned nightclub.
As the New Yorker says, “recent Flashing Lights parties have been high-spirited, low-attitude events that recall the mood of New York City dance clubs from the early eighties, like Danceteria. Remember: the event is actually for dancers, rather than for people who need to text each other in public.”
