On August 20, Manhattan’s East Village waterfront will come alive with a special Red Bull Music Academy showcase in association with City Parks Foundation’s revered SummerStage. This totally free event will feature hiphop/electronic production guru AraabMuzik alongside Flosstradamus, Teengirl Fantasy and Nick Hook.
Considered by many to be one of the most current and influential producers both in the world of hiphop and electronic music, Abraham Orellana has been producing cutting edge beats on the MPC for a number of years longer than you probably knew of. Over the years he’s developed an impressive list of collaborations including Dipset members Cam’Ron, Duke Da God, Hell Rell as well as Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Cassidy, Slaughterhouse, Fabolous, and more recent break-out rappers such as Danny Brown. In the past few years the latino Rhode Island-born producer has also made his mark in the electronic world releasing his critically acclaimed Electronic Dream EP in 2011 and Instrumental University series earlier this year.
Josh Young (J2K) and Curt Cameruci (Autobot) first met in 2005 and joined forces soon after, bursting into the club scene and quickly escalating to become the well-known duo we know and love today. Merging their vast musical preferences, Flosstradamus managed to bring audiences together with their unique club-ready blend of everything from to punk to crunk. They quickly gained popularity by putting out a number of mashups and remixes while the success of their monthly ‘Get Outta the Hood’ party ensured the DJs went down as local legends in their hometown of Chicago. In April 2006 they made URB’s ‘Next 100’ list and the rest, I guess you could say, is history. They’re now putting out tracks on Fool’s Gold and Mad Decent.. and playing parties with us, of course.
Recent graduates of Oberlin College’s music conservatory, Logan Takahasi and Nick Weiss somehow managed to squeeze in a full-length and regular touring before their studies ended. With school now behind them, the duo return and will next month release their sophomore album Tracer, an even deeper, mind-altering dance album which builds on their past sound but ditches samples altogether. We predict great things for this upcoming duo.
A regular at many of our past shows, and one part of the genre-blurring group Cubic Zirconia, Nick Hook is largely responsible for the sleek synths and grimy techno-soul sound the band produces in their energetic live sets which tend to dabble in everything from disco to funk to R&B to house. Besides this Nick has been keeping himself busy over the years, frequently playing in bands and live shows for Drop the Lime, L-Vis 1990 and El-P of Company Flow. He was also a graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy last year.
